Kindergarten:
The Dept. for Education provides one year of Preschool/Kindergarten, 15 hours per week, the year prior to starting school. Children must be 4 by April 30th to start Kindy at the beginning of 2025. Or 4 by 30th Oct 2025 to start Term 3 for the mid-year intake.
Some Centres offer Pre – Entry sessions in Term 4. Due to numbers, we are offering 2 sessions of Pre-Entry for children not in Childcare. We will run Pre-Entry sessions for childcare children across Term 4 in small groups.
What we need to know:
Immunisation: Children must have their immunisation schedule from Medicare (Mygov) to access Kindergarten. The State Government passed legislation in August 2020 making it mandatory.
Medication: If your child is taking any medication, even an asthma puffer we require a medical plan signed by your doctor. Without signed consent we cannot administer any medication.
Allergies: Please let us know if your child has allergies and if they require medication and or specific dietary requirements.
Immediate communications will be via text message.
What you need to bring:
A piece of fruit/vegetable packed separately and lunch in lunch box. Children have a fruit/vegetable snack in the morning, followed by lunch and an afternoon snack. In the warmer months we suggest an ice brick in the lunch box as children have lockers for their belongings. A named drink bottle with water.
A hat, you can purchase a Carol Murray Children’s Centre hat for $10. CMCC is sun aware and hats are to be worn between 1st August and 30th April or when the UV is 3 or above. Children have access to their hats the entire year.
A spare set of named clothes in case a change is needed. T shirts and jumpers will also be available for purchase across the year. Please see Clare for more information.
What you need to do:
Dress your children in work clothes as they will be busy and will get dirty. Name your child’s belongings. We have many children at the Centre, and we want children to be able to look after and find their belongings.
Apply sunscreen before you come to Kindy in the warmer months. We reapply sunscreen at Kindy.
Ask lots of questions if you do not understand any of our routines or requirements or want to find out information about your child learning. Our staff team are very happy to meet with you to discuss your child’s learning or involvement in the program. Join the Governing Council if you are interested in supporting the governance of CMCC. There are two meetings per term on a Tuesday night at 6:30pm.
Learning:
The educators develop a learning program using the Early Years Learning Framework v2 and other key documents to ensure individual learning needs are met. Information will be shared across the year about children’s learning growth.
Communication:
We have a closed Facebook page that you will be invited to join. On this page we share our learning, songs and stories for you to enjoy and talk about at home. We also publish a newsletter three times a term with information and coming events for the whole site. Children will have a named file for notes and notices.
Childcare:
Childcare may be available before and after kindergarten sessions. The cost is as follows: 8:00am -8:30am $20. 3:30pm to 6:00pm $43.00. Childcare subsidies may apply. Please speak with Julie or Clare if you would like to access this service.
Buses:
If there are spaces on Dept. for Education buses, children who live more than 5km from Bordertown may be able to travel to kindergarten via collection at the Primary School. If you are planning for your child to travel on the bus to Kindy, there are several forms to fill out. The High School manage the buses not CMCC. We also have forms for you to sign giving us permission to walk your child from the bus to school and back again. Buses commence buses in week 3 Term 1.
Enrolment
Enrolling your child
You can register your interest to enrol your child with us by using the preschool registration of interest form. This form is also available from us.
Try to register your interest by 30 June, but you can do this any time during the year.
A letter of offer will be provided the term before your child commences Kindy.
How to enrol
- Fill out the registration form, drop in and we can print one out for you if needed.
- Email it to dl.6507.leaders@schools.sa.edu.au or drop in and see us.
- We will contact you about session availability and enrolment.
When your child can start preschool
Your child is entitled to access 4 terms (1 year) of government preschool in the year before they start school.
Children who turn 4 years old:
- before 1 May can start preschool at the beginning of the year
- on 1 May to 31 October can start preschool through the mid-year intake at the start of Term 3 of that year
- after 31 October can start preschool at the start of the following year.
Regardless of whether your child starts at the beginning of the year, or through a mid-year intake they will undertake 4 terms of preschool.
If you are not sure about the best time for your child to start preschool or feel your child may benefit from starting preschool later, talk to us about your options.
Priority of Access
Aboriginal children and children who are or have been in care are eligible for 15 hours of preschool a week after they turn 3, continuing until they start school.
If you have a child with disability or additional needs, they might be able to start preschool earlier if there are places available. Talk to us if this applies to you. Being given early entry to preschool does not guarantee early entry to school.
Fees
We ask you to contribute towards the cost of your child attending preschool.
The parent contribution is $95 per term.
We offer other programs that may have additional costs.
When to pay
We will invoice you via email or your child’s information pocket.
Payments are due in week 3 of each term.
Please contact us if you are having difficulty paying.
How to pay
EFT information
Payment can be made via EFT. Details will be on the invoice.
Immunisations
When you enrol your child you will be asked to provide evidence of their immunisation status.
